Bradford B 5½-2½ Sheffield C
A good win for Sheffield C in the final match of the season against
a team of equal strength. Sheffield C scored 10/22 points for the season.

Sheffield C 5½-2½ Pontefract
Sheffield C has avoided relegation by beating Pontefract in the
penultimate match of the season. A loss could have condemned us to
relegation, so when the first game to finish was a loss for Sheffield I
was a little nervous until we won four of the remaining games to secure
the win in the match.

Sheffield C 4-4 St Vincent's
Although Sheffield C outgraded their opponents on all seven lower
boards they could only achieve a drawn match. On the brighter side, Otto
Hardy played his first game (drawn) since his operation. He has lost
none of his enthusiasm for the game.

Harrogate B 5-3 Sheffield C
With only two points from the last four matches Sheffield C are in
danger of being drawn into the relegation zone.

20th January 2007
Sheffield C 4-4 Dewsbury
An important point gained by Sheffield C considering their normal
top four boards were all absent. Otto Hardy is due to return to the team
in February
following major heart surgery.

Sheffield C v Calderdale B
A bad loss against one of the poorer teams in the league. We had chances
to draw or even win the match, but I missed a two move mate in chronic
time trouble and Gerry, also in time trouble, agreed a draw when he
overlooked a winning play.

2nd December
Sheffield C 4-4 Rose Forgrove B
A hard fought draw against a team that had won its first three
matches helped Sheffield C to maintain its mid-table position. Four
games wins and four losses mean that only two games have been drawn in
the thirty-two played so far this season.

Many people will know Otto Hardy, who has been associated with Sheffield
since the 1940s and who has played for Sheffield, for many years, in the
Yorkshire League (despite living in Loughborough!) Otto, who now plays
for John Mercy's Sheffield C team, collapsed at the train station after
the end of the match on 30th September. He was taken to Northern General
Hospital, where he underwent a heart bypass operation. He is now
recovering. I know everyone will wish Otto well.
