The details of this year's Hope Valley Blitz tournament are as follows:
By all accounts this was a well attended and very enjoyable local event. David Bentley has sent us the list of Prize Winners for each section. Click here to have a nosey.
Nomads A beat Worksop A 5½-2½ in their last match of the season to win this season's Davy Trophy. In the other divisions SASCA A look like they are going to win the Weston Trophy, Nomads C won the Batley-Meek Trophy (with a remarkable 16 wins out of 16!), and SASCA B are leading in the Athaeneum Cup with Phoenix C chasing hard..

There seems to be a widespread perception
that people from Yorkshire are not averse to saving money. Bill O'Rourke
has asked that we publicise the Northern Membership Scheme
http://www.nccu.org.uk/nccumembershipscheme.htm for those of us
with deep pockets and short arms. Bill has summarised
the scheme as follows:
"This scheme is open to any NCCU player, or any player who plays in a NCCU
league. Current membership is already 1,588. By paying a one-off fee of
£10 (£5 for people under 18 on 1st September 05), you will gain the
following benefits
until 31st August 06:
|
reduced entry fees to events all over the North (eg Blackpool £5, Liverpool £5, York £5, Northumberland £7!)
|
free downloadable Chessmoves magazine
|
basic membership of the BCF
|
exemption from game fee at all BCF affiliated events
|
your club will pay reduced fees to leagues resulting in reduced club fees for yourself" |
Bill can be contacted on 01706 627874
Sheffield A drew 4-4 with York A. So, as things stand, after 8 games played (3 remaining), the top teams are York A - 15 points; Sheffield A - 14; Rose Forgrove - 11; Bradford A - 10; Hull A - 10. Jeremy Hamm
Nomads I and another team storm into the Richardson Cup Final. Clay Cross and Nomads II storm into the Richardson Plate Final. Further details (but not many) on the results page. Neither Final will be played at Wembley Stadium because it won't be finished by then.
