SHEFFIELD & DISTRICT CHESS ASSOCIATION

 Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on the Tuesday, 5th September
 2006 at The Bridge, Chesterfield Road, Sheffield at 7.30 p.m.

 President Roger Hoole opened the meeting

 1. Remembrance: The meeting rose to remember Sam Haystead of Rotherham
 Juniors who had passed away during the previous season. He had overcome
 severe disabilities to achieve notable success in the chess world. He will
 be sadly missed.
 2. Apologies for absence: were received from P.J.Beckett, M.Smith,
 G.Frost, J.Mercy, Sheffield Deaf.
 3. Minutes of the 2005 Annual General meeting were distributed.
 4. Matters arising: From the previous minutes, the allowance of an
 extra 10 minutes to the standard 15 minutes in the final time control for
 handicapped players had been followed on an agreed informal basis the
 previous season.
 5. Treasurer's Report: Mike Brumby reported a trouble free season
 helped by some very low bulletin expenses. This meant there would be no
 need
 to ask for an increase in fees for the coming season.
 6. Secretaries' Reports: The General Secretary (Bill Ward) and
 Divisional and Cup Secretaries) Mike Brumby, Joe Primrose, Ron Keenan and
 Phil Beckett) all reported trouble free seasons.
    The Yorkshire League captains all did likewise, the highlight here

    being the success of Alan McIntosh's B team in winning Division 2
    of the League!
 Postal Secretary Geoff  Frost reported good progress in the current
 season.
 The organisers for the Sheffield Championsip (John Fryer), Moses Trophy
 (John Fryer) and Crabb Shield (Bill Ward) all reported enjoyable events,
 all
 results are shown below.

 9. Chairman of the Executive:
 G.Frost was re-elected

 10. Election of members to serve on the Executive:
 P.Swanson P.Cumbers P.Ellis P.Blackman were elected

 11. Proposed amendments to the Constitution & Rules:
    A proposal from Mike Brumby that the phrase "The allegro finish shall
 be
 conducted in accordance with the BCF Quickplay Finish rules." be deleted
 from Rule 20(b) as it was no longer necessary was passed.
    A further proposal from Mike Brumby that the words "Talbot Trophy" in
 Rule 24(d) be replaced by "Sam Haystead Memorial Trophy" was also passed.
 This refers to the trophy awarded to the winners of the Plate competition.



 12. Approval of teams seeking membership to the league
 Notice had been given by Sheffield Deaf that they would not be entering
 any
 teams this season and were therefore dropping out of the league.

          Approved teams therefore were Aughton  Barnby Dun Bishops
          Barnsley   Chesterfield   Clay Cross   Darnall & Handsworth
          Ecclesall   Nomads   Phoenix   Rotherham   Rotherham Juniors
          SASCA  Stannington   University   Wombwell
          Woodseats   Worksop

     13.Fixing of fees and subscriptions: As indicated above there was no
          alteration to the current fees and subscriptions necessary.

     14.Organisation of teams into Divisions:
        Division 1: As Nomads B were not taking promotion from Division

        2 there was a casual vacancy in Division 1.
        Worksop A and  University A applied for the vacancy, University

        won by a vote of 9-4

        Division 2 : As Nomads C were not taking promotion from Divison
        3 there was a casual vacancy in Division 2. This was taken by
       Aughton A, unopposed..

     15.Any Other Business
      A suggestion to appoint a YCA representative or link was discussed.
      Jeremy Hamm agreed to take on the post informally for the time
      being
